Hello! My name is Juanita Allen.
I am and have been a member of the Leonberger Club of America (LCA) since 2006.
I breed Leos for health, temperament and physical fitness. All of our dogs are members of our family. Our Leonberger puppies are raised in our home as part of our family.
I have raised and shown dogs since 1986. My first breeds were Chows and Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. I was very fortunate in the beginning to bring home my first dogs from top breeders in the country. For me this was the best learning experience I could have had. I received my introduction to the dog show world and began my education about the health and structure of dogs.
In 1993 I moved with my dogs to Eastern Washington and married my husband Kerry. When I moved here to Chewelah I retired from showing. My canine companions lived out their lives here to nice ripe old ages.
When I felt ready to again start the process of adding a family pet to our home I contacted an old friend who is now an AKC judge and who was the breeder I bought my first show Chow from... Everything seems to come full circle.
We talked about various breeds and I explained about my life here in Eastern Washington. We talked about what I was looking for in a family pet; namely a sound loving temperament and a large presence. She also loves larger breeds she gave me the names of two rare breeds. One was the Leonberger. I started the process of learning about the breed and contacting breeders in the area. I then took a trip and met my first Leonberger. I fell in love. So here I am 18 years later with five Leos which I love and cherish.
Dr. Becket, our Polish import Sherman, Milo, Bardot and Sophia. I am also very fortunate to have a very good friend and co-breeder in NY state that I co-own three Leonbergers with, Renzi, our Polish import Rosie and Trudy.
For me the temperament and lovable nature of this large breed is what sold me. If you have any more questions please feel free to contact me by phone or email.
Our Leonbergers are not bred until they reach two years of age and have completed all of their required health tests. Any males that I may use for breeding outside of my kennel must have completed their required health tests. These tests include; Hips and Elbows, Thyroid, Eye Certification, LPN1, LPN2, LPNN3 and LEMP. Both the Sire and Dam of all of my litters must have their CHIC numbers which is assigned when the dogs have had their required health testing completed and posted on the OFA site.
Once the health tests are completed we evaluate the structure of each dog looking at producing puppies as close to standard as possible. We try to make sure that we are improving our overall breed when doing a breeding.
We look at pedigrees and do a coefficient rating on each breeding pair. Essentially, the coefficient measures the common ancestors of dam and sire, and indicates the probability of how genetically similar they are.
As I said, we strive for healthy and happy Leonbergers.

The breed is double coated and they do require grooming. Most also love the water and swimming.
